Clipper - Clipper AIS Engine 3 (37355)
The AIS Engine 3 is supplied with a free copy of `SeaClear' and a trial version of Software on Board. A data cable to connect to the 9 pin serial port of a PC and a 12 volt power cable
The AIS Engine 3 and a conventional marine antenna are all you need to start plotting vessels on your PC or AIS compatible plotter. The software runs in windows 95, 98, ME, XP, 2000, NT and Vista, it includes a world map on which vessels are plotted. Any vessel on the screen can be selected and its AIS data displayed. This includes the vessels name, MMSI number, position, call sign and destination etc. Also included on the AIS Engine is an optional input for a GPS (RMC sentence). With this connected the users own vessel is shown on the chart with its latitude and longitude displayed in a window.

The unit can receive ships on either the A or B AIS channels. In default setting it alternates between the two channels.

The AIS engine can also be used with plotters or other PC software that have an AIS input facility. Check compatibility with your software supplier. An NMEA 0183HS input at 38,400 baud is required to accept the VDM AIS strings corresponding to ITU-1371.

If your PC does not have a spare 9 pin serial port a low cost serial to USB converter is available as an optional extra.

Digital Yacht - Digital Yacht ANT200 Smart AIS Antenna (38676)
ANT200 Smart AIS Antenna

Perfect "all in one" AIS Smart Antenna solution for small boats, particularly RIBs, Sports boats and small yachts where dry space to mount black box AIS units is limited. Simply connect 12v or 24v power and the ANT200 will start transmitting data on all AIS targets within a 10 mile* radius of your boat. Ideal for use with existing AIS compatible chart plotters such as the latest Garmin, Raymarine, Navico, Standard Horizon and Furuno units.

Connect the NMEA0183 (4800 baud) output of your GPS to the ANT200 and it will automatically multiplex (merge) the slower GPS data with the high speed AIS data and transmit everything on one high speed NMEA output (38,400 baud) - perfect for connection to a chart plotter with only one NMEA input.

  • Multiplexed NMEA input for single NMEA GPS+AIS data output at 38,400 baud
  • Simple to install "all in one" smart antenna solution
  • Integral 1" x 14 TPI thread for fixing to standard VHF mounts
  • 15m Power/Data cable
  • High performance dual channel AIS receiver for use with existing plotter and radar systems
  • High Speed NMEA output (38,400 baud)

NOTE - In much the same way as hand held VHFs do not give you the range of fixed mount VHFs (no antenna ground plane), the ANT200 does not have the same range as the AIS200/400 black box AIS units. If maximum AIS range is your highest priority then one of the other Digital Yacht receivers should be used, but for small boats with the aerial mounted at deck level, 10 miles is a good range for AIS and the ANT200 is recommended.

Icom - Icom MA-500TR AIS Transponder w/MX-G5000 GPS Receiver Class B (41173)
The MA-500TR is a class B AIS transponder that offers modern navigation safety while matching the clean look of Icom's award-winning VHF and SSB radios. Give your helm a handsome, harmonious look for fraction of the price. The MA-500TR automatically shares your vessel information with other AIS transponders. If you want to contact another vessel, you no longer need to locate and punch in its 9-digit MMSI number - the MA-500TR does it automatically. AIS information is displayed on the MA-500TR's own modest (yet clear and bold) screen or, for those who want a larger screen, in an NMEA-standard data stream for use by third-party chartplotters or other onboard nav gear. When you want the best, get the best. Get Icom. Simply the best.

The MA-500TR is a Class B AIS transponder for Non-SOLAS vessels such as pleasure craft, work-boat and small vessels. Your vessels information will automatically be transmitted at fixed intervals or under base station control. The MA-500TR receives dual AIS channels (Ch. 87B and Ch. 88B) simultaneously and receives both Class A and Class B AIS information. Transmitted information by MA-500TR is:

  • MMSI code
  • Vessel name
  • Call sign
  • Type of ship
  • GPS antenna position
  • Ship's position
  • SOG (Speed over ground)
  • COG (Course over ground)
  • UTC date and time
  • GPS antenna type
  • PA (Position Accuracy)

    Simple operation
The Plotter display looks like a marine radar display. North-up, course-up and range zoom from 0.125 NM to 24 NM are supported. The Target list display shows all detected AIS equipped vessels and targets. The Danger list display shows a list of vessels that are within 6 NM CPA and 60 minutes TCPA from your vessel. The Danger list can be sorted by CPA or TCPA order. In addition to these display types, the Detail screen shows various information about the selected AIS target.

CPA and TCPA for collision-risk management
When a vessel comes into the CPA and TCPA range, the vessel icon blinks on the Plotter dispaly and emits a beep sound. When connected to external audio equipment installed on the deck tower, the collision alarm function will alert you even when you are away from the AIS transponder.

    Individual DSC call
When connected to a compatible Icom VHF radio. It's easy to make an individual DSC call. Select a vessel using the MA-500TR's cusor keys and then push the "DSC" button on the MA-500TR. It is not required to input an MMSI number manually.

    100 Waypoints memory
Up to 100 waypoints can be stored on the waypoint list. The "MOB" button allows you to set a waypoint on your current position instantly.

    Safety-related message
When the MA-500TR receives a safetey-related message from a Class A AIS transponder, the message icon appears on the Plotter display. Up to 20 received DSC messages are automatically stored in the log memory.

    3-line NMEA input/output

Digital Yacht - Digital Yacht iAIS f/iPhone & iPad (41591)
    iAIS Wireless Receiver

The world's first wireless AIS receiver that links wirelessly with the latest iPhone, iPad and iTouch devices. Consisting of a high performance dual channel AIS receiver, an integrated 802.11b+g wireless access point plus a free app downloadable from the Apple App Store, the iAIS brings AIS data to a whole new generation of mobile devices.

iAIS also multiplexes any other NMEA data that is available on board the boat - for instance GPS, depth, speed and wind etc. All of this data is combined with the AIS data into a single wireless feed, that becomes available on any compatible application. By using the boat's own GPS, even an iTouch or iPad that does not have an internal GPS can now be used for navigation and superior performance will also be seen on an iPhone, which some users have complained suffers from jitter or poor lock-on with its internal GPS.

As well as sending data wirelessly, the iAIS also has an NMEA0183 and USB interface so that you can output data to a PC (via USB) and a dedicated plotter (via NMEA) for larger installations.

The free iAIS app is available from the App store and is a simple AIS display program. For more advanced use, Digital Yacht recommends the iNavX app (www.inavx.com). Compatible with Navionic's charts, iNavX provides a complete set of navigation functions that turns your Apple device into a full function electronic chart plotter. It supports waypoints, routes and tidal data and is beautifully simple to use. It even overlays GRIB weather data. iNAVx sell and support this app directly.

    • World's first wireless AIS and NMEA Data server
    • Tri-output; Wi-Fi, NMEA 0183 and USB
    • Multiplexed NMEA input for wireless NMEA data feed of boat's instrument and GPS data
    • Free iAIS App for iPhone, iTouch or iPad
    • Integrated 802.11b+g wireless access point
    • Fully compatible with popular iNavX navigation application for Apple mobile devices
    • Rugged IPX5 aluminium housing
    • Requires VHF antenna or dedicated AIS antenna (available as optional accessory) or splitter
    • Simple "fit and forget" black box solution

NOTE - AIS target range, like VHF range is dependent upon a number of installation factors such as; antenna gain, antenna height and size of ground plane. Ranges in excess of 20-30 miles should be possible if all of these factors are perfect.
